Customs and import costs
The United Kingdom is outside the EU. Your parcel needs a customs declaration (CN22 or CN23, or digitally with the label) with a description, the value and, for business shipments, the HS code of the contents.
The recipient usually pays import duties, VAT and clearance fees, unless you pay them in advance (DDP). Unexpected costs are a common reason for recipients to refuse a parcel, so state it clearly in your webshop.
If your webshop sells directly to consumers in the UK, you charge and pay UK VAT yourself on shipments up to £135; for that you need a UK VAT registration. If you sell through a marketplace, the marketplace usually handles it.
Some products can’t be shipped, or only under conditions, such as batteries, liquids, perfume and food. Check your carrier’s terms.
