What are the dimensions of a Euro pallet?+
A Euro pallet (EPAL 1) is 120 × 80 cm and 14.4 cm high. Empty, it weighs about 25 kg and it can carry up to 1,500 kg when evenly loaded. A block pallet (industrial pallet) is 120 × 100 cm.
How high can a pallet be?+
That depends on the carrier and the warehouse. For parcel pallets and pallet networks, 1.80 to 2.20 metres including the pallet is common; some networks set lower maximums for half pallets. Fulfilment companies often specify a maximum height for their racking, so ask about it before you have stock delivered.
What’s the best way to stack boxes on a pallet?+
Heavy boxes at the bottom, no overhang over the edge (the box then no longer carries the load) and preferably interlocked: each layer turned a quarter. Wrap the pallet in stretch film and add a pallet label with the number of boxes.
How does this calculator work?+
For each layer we try both orientations of the box and combinations of two blocks (part of them rotated). The number of layers is the maximum height minus the pallet, divided by the height of a box. If the total weight is too high, we stop at the maximum. In practice the pattern may differ slightly.
